July BSO performance at PAC postponed
The scheduled July 9th performance of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at the new Performing Arts Center at Garrett College has been postponed.
“This was essentially a timing issue,” said Dr. Richard Midcap, Garrett College’s president. “The BSO needed a concrete commitment by mid-June and we aren’t scheduled to receive our occupancy permit until late June. I didn’t want us to make a commitment we might end up being hard-pressed to fulfill.”
Midcap said PAC Executive Director Mary Callis is working with the BSO to reschedule the event, likely in November.
“I appreciate the BSO’s flexibility and understanding,” said Midcap. “Their leadership has been absolutely great to work with throughout this process.”
Midcap also praised the efforts of Director of Campus Facilities and Security Kathy Meagher, the project manager, and general contractor Leonard S. Fiore, Inc.
“Constructing a performing arts center in the midst of COVID has been a challenge,” he noted. “Kathy Meagher and the Fiore team has problem-solved numerous supply-chain issues and Fiore has put on extra workers with longer shifts in an attempt to feature the BSO in July.”
Midcap said the challenging project “will have been well worth the effort once it is completed.”
“I was part of a PAC ‘hard-hat’ tour a couple of weeks ago and that’s just going to be a wonderful facility when it’s done,” said Midcap.
